Starter guide — expanded editorial coverage to follow
Recovery is not a separate hobby from training — it is the part of training where adaptation happens. The basics are unglamorous and they work.
The short list
- A few minutes of easy movement to finish, rather than stopping cold.
- A meal with protein and carbohydrate within a sensible window.
- Enough sleep, often enough, to feel like training again.
- Load that increases gradually instead of in jumps.
Rest days are training days
A rest day does not have to mean the couch. Walking, easy cycling, swimming and mobility all keep you moving without adding meaningful load.
Building a routine you'll keep
The best recovery routine is the one that survives a busy week. Pick two or three things, attach them to something you already do, and keep the order the same.
Recovery you actually repeat beats recovery you admire.
Pain that is sharp, one-sided or not improving is worth having assessed by a qualified health professional.
